Til Death Do Us Part

A 3-Film Eurocult Series where Matrimony Goes Mad

March 20-22  |  11 pm  |  The Logan Theatre  |  Chicago

This March, The Logan Theatre and Stephanie "La Gialloholique" Sack cordially (and mortally) invite you to Till Death Do Us Part, a Late Night at the Logan 3-film series devoted to the darkest wedding bells ever rung on screen. Spanning 1968–1972, these Eurocult movies explore matrimony as a blood-soaked battleground, where killer brides, psychotic grooms, and deeply demented ceremonies reveal the true terror lurking behind “happily ever after.”

Beneath their sensational surfaces, these films articulate the cultural anxieties of post-war Europe, where marriage becomes a site of social and ideological tension rather than romantic stability. Emerging from societies reckoning with the decline of aristocratic power, the lingering trauma of fascism, and rapidly shifting gender roles, these stories recast domestic life as a space of control and confinement.

Within these spaces, the figure of the bride exposes conflicts between patriarchal expectation and growing demands for female autonomy and sexual agency. Marriage, in these films, is not a refuge for deep commitment but a mechanism through which power, repression, and resistance collide:

Friday, March 20 – The Bride Wore Black (1968, France)  Trailer

When retribution is even more delicious than wedding cake, it's because the bride wore black. François Truffaut’s icy revenge tale follows a newlywed widow who turns her wedding grief into a surgical strike against the men who ruined her life. Chic, cruel, and impeccably dressed for mourning.

Saturday, March 21 – Hatchet for the Honeymoon (1970, Italy)  Trailer

Marital bliss meets interior design from hell. Mario Bava’s glossy, unhinged giallo stars a fashion-house heir who butchers brides in order to preserve his marriage — because nothing says commitment like serial murder and a suspiciously large walk-in closet. A stylish precursor to the male arrogance and fabulous fashions of American Psycho!

Sunday, March 22 – The Blood Spattered Bride (1972, Spain)  Trailer

A gothic honeymoon goes straight to the dungeon. Vicente Aranda’s surreal, savage take on Carmilla pits a newlywed bride against patriarchal control, sexual repression, and one extremely cursed estate. Feminist fury, voluptuous lady vampirism, and a perfectly placed dagger all combine for a Eurosleaze gem slashing its way out of a post-fascist Spain.

These films ask the eternal question: Is marriage a sacred institution—or just another beautifully decorated prison?

Come for the gowns. Stay for the guillotines, hatchets, and blood-soaked bridal veils. Sip cocktails inspired by the films, get ready to catch the bouquet, and promise your devotion to the Logan Theatre forever. After all, love means never having to say you’re sorry… just “I don't.”
