Giallo Gelato
A 50th Anniversary Giallo Celebration
July 18-21 | 11 pm | The Logan Theatre | Chicago
Everyone loves ice cream and murder! This July, cool off with a scoop and a scream as cult film curator and horror maven Stephanie “La Gialloholique” Sack plunges you into GIALLO GELATO — the blood-red, black-gloved world of Italian Giallo cinema with four killer films celebrating their 50th anniversary.
Based on a film screening series originally produced and programmed by LA-based Secret Movie Club, Sack is thrilled to bring the GIALLO GELATO concept to Late Nights at Chicago's historic Logan Theatre. These sensational shockers — equal parts murder mystery, fashion fantasy, and fever dream — were Italy’s post-war answer to Hitchcock by way of the grindhouse, where sleaze meets style, art meets arterial spray, and every killer is dressed to kill.
By 1975, the Giallo arguably had reached its blood-soaked peak; to celebrate the 50th anniversaries of four of that year’s most outrageous, influential, and rarely screened cult classics, Sack presents GIALLO GELATO, a four-night spree of suspense, sleaze, and stylish psychosis at The Logan Theatre’s Late Nights. These aren’t just horror movies... they're eye-popping, pulse-racing time capsules of Italian genre cinema at its wildest, and this is your only chance to see them all together on the big screen.
Each screening begins at 11:00 PM and is personally introduced by Sack, whose deep knowledge and infectious passion for 20th century Eurohorror will bring these delirious gems screaming back to life. Whether you're a diehard devotee or a curious newcomer, GIALLO GELATO delivers all the blood, beauty, and bravura that defines the genre. Expect razor-sharp suspense, eye-popping style, and a level of cinematic excess that effortlessly swings from the operatic to the outrageous.
And yes, there will be themed gelato flavors inspired by each night’s cinematic carnage. Because nothing says la dolce vita like ice cream and murder... nothing except GIALLO GELATO!
